What a mess Hillsdale Lake in Kansas City is in Today!

Today I had the pleasure to visit Hillsdale lake to go jet skiing on my sea doo today. I planned on camping at the lake this weekend with my boys and some friends; however, that was scratched after driving through the park. The water at some spots was 25-30 feet above normal. The water covered all of the sand beaches and covered up most of the grassy area between the beach and the bath houses.

When I arrived at the camping spots, nearly 50% of the camp sites could not be reached because of the water. Water covered many of the roads around the camp sites and made the camp sites inhabitable.

Needless to say my weekend plans will be changing and I will not be camping at Hillsdale Lake this weekend. I talked to a park ranger and he told me that the dam was not operating due to the water problems down south, especially in Osawatomie, Kansas. Once the water problems are taken care of down south the dam can start letting water out. Once the dam starts operating, according to the park ranger, the lake should be back to normal in 7 days.
